Coherent launches ultra-low cost UV lasers for marking applications

Coherent today announced the launch of its next generation ultra-low cost nanosecond pulsed ultraviolet laser, Matrix, for high-contrast marking applications in consumer products, industrial electronics, home appliances and packaging.

In recent years, the increasing adoption of environmentally friendly non-contact laser marking in consumer devices and packaging has driven the demand for cost-effective UV lasers that can help achieve permanent, damage-free marking.

Coherent's new UV laser Matrix is a diode-pumped solid-state laser that delivers exceptional marking quality at half the entry price of existing solutions.

"By sourcing key optical components in-house and leveraging our large manufacturing and service base in Asia, we will be able to sell Matrix lasers at an attractive cost of ownership model." The new Matrix laser has output power of 5W and 10W, pulse repetition rates ranging from 50kHz to 300kHz, and maintenance-free operation cycles of more than 15,000 hours, enabling reliable high-volume production. The Matrix laser delivers pulse energy up to 200μJ at 355nm for the most demanding applications and is based on Coherent, field-proven UV technology.
