TRUMPF, a laser manufacturing giant, recently announced that it will display its eco cooler series manufacturing solutions for laser cutting machine operation at the euroblech trade show held in Hanover from October 25 to 28 this year. It is reported that this solution can help users greatly reduce the cooling energy consumption during laser cutting.

The traditional cooling system uses fluorinated gas as coolant, which has several disadvantages: the cooling process will consume a lot of energy, and it is neither economical nor environmentally friendly to treat these fluorinated gases. In contrast, the eco cooler series laser cutting machine solutions developed by tongkuai in cooperation with efficient energy can use pure water as coolant, which means that it can reduce refrigeration energy consumption by 80% and completely eliminate harmful substances.
Tongkuai said that so far, this solution is unique in the sheet metal industry. Stephan Mayer, CEO of tongkuai machine tool department, said: "Sustainability is increasingly becoming a key competitive advantage, especially when energy costs are rising. In order to ensure the feasibility of operation, sheet metal processing enterprises should turn to lower carbon and environmentally friendly technologies. Eco cooler will help our customers save energy and reduce the use of harmful substances in production. We see an opportunity to improve the environment and energy consumption of the whole industry while reducing costs."
Following euroblech, this new solution will be used for tongkuai 1000-5000 series laser cutting machines. According to introduction, the working principle of eco cooler is as follows: water flows to heat generating components, such as laser diodes, optics, drivers and control cabinets. After cooling these components, the water will flow back to the eco cooler and be cooled by the heat exchanger. This is an innovative process involving evaporation, compression and condensation, and its working principle is the same as that of a heat pump. It allows users to control the temperature of components that generate heat during laser processing, and also adjust the volumetric flow rate.
Eco cooler can help enterprise users reduce the cost and carbon footprint of laser cutting. According to tongkuai's estimation, on average, using the new solutions can reduce carbon emissions by 15 metric tons per year, which is equivalent to saving about 10000 euros. Instead of using fluorine-containing gases, the cost of refrigerants can be saved and carbon emissions can be further reduced by 12 metric tons. This solution is an ideal solution for all sheet metal processing application enterprises (such as intelligent factory operators) who want to make their operations more sustainable and cheaper.
At present, many countries around the world have begun to provide feedback funds to companies wishing to achieve this transformation. Tongkuai said that according to the utilization rate of machine capacity and the level of government support, eco cooler can recover its costs within three years.
