The range of non-metallic materials is very wide, and there are various processing methods. However, in the face of high-power lasers, it is usually only necessary to consider the optical properties of the material to determine whether it can be processed by laser. Laser cutting of non-metallic materials mainly uses CO2 lasers with a wavelength of 10.6 μ m. Most non-metallic materials, such as plastics, wood, paper, fabrics, etc., have high absorption rates for laser beams of this wavelength. In addition, CO2 lasers have high energy density. Therefore, CO2 lasers are currently the mainstream solution for processing non-metallic materials in the market.

Equipment using CO2 laser requires a specialized control system, which is also commonly referred to as CO2 laser control system or non-metallic material cutting laser control system in the industry. In rare cases, ultraviolet lasers or fiber lasers are also used, and similarly, the use of such lasers also requires specialized laser control systems.

Whether it is a CO2 laser control system, ultraviolet laser control system, or fiber laser control system, these are essentially machine tool numerical control systems. Considering the actual processing background, such control systems should have the following basic functions:

1. Laser control: Laser control is one of the basic functions of the control system. After the operator issues instructions, the control system adjusts various parameters of the laser through the output pulse signal, including power, pulse frequency, pulse width, etc. The quality of the laser beam directly affects the effect of laser processing, so it is also one of the most important functions.

2. Machine tool control: The machine tool control of the laser control system is reflected in the motion control of the mechanical axis, the control of the overall circuit power supply of the machine tool, the control of the loading and unloading system of the machine tool, the control of the machine tool alarm system, etc. These are the basic functions that a CNC machine tool system should have, and directly determine whether the machining effect is accurate and whether the machining speed is efficient.

3. File management: As laser processing requires implementation according to specific design plans, the laser control system should have basic file management functions, including receiving files, modifying files, managing files, deleting files, and so on.

4. Processing management: Laser control system is an intelligent modern CNC system that can freely set various processing related parameters such as processing times, processing time, processing methods, etc., reducing dependence on manpower and achieving a higher degree of automation.
