On May 6, 2024 local time, the Danish Business Administration (DBA) approved the sale of NKT Photonics to Photonics Management Europe S.R.L, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Hamamatsu Photonics K.K.

On that day, Hamamatsu Photonics received a notice from the Danish Business Administration stating that the acquisition had been approved:

NKT Photonics stated that the transaction is expected to be completed in the second quarter of 2024. At present, Binsong Photonics is considering the impact of this acquisition on its comprehensive performance for the fiscal year ending in September 2024.

At this point, this event has reached a milestone of comprehensive success, and Hamamatsu Photonics has finally successfully acquired NKT Photonics.
As early as June 24, 2022, Japan's Hamamatsu Photonics announced a strategic acquisition of Danish fiber laser manufacturer NKT Photonics for 205 million euros (equivalent to RMB 1.762 billion), which became a focal point.

At the beginning of 2023, NKT Photonics successfully obtained necessary regulatory approvals from authorities in Germany, the United Kingdom, and the United States. However, approval from the Danish authorities is also a necessary authorization condition for it to complete the transaction and acquire NKT Photonics.

But in early May last year, this transaction was suddenly rejected by Danish authorities and the planned sale was blocked under the Danish Investment Review Act, resulting in the matter being temporarily shelved.

In July 2023, Hamamatsu resubmitted an application to obtain approval for this transaction in Denmark, acquiring shares of NKT Photonics as a subsidiary of PME (Hamamatsu's subsidiary).

It is reported that Hamamatsu Optoelectronics Co., Ltd., founded in 1953, is the world's most technologically advanced and market share largest optical science and industry company. Currently, it has over 5000 employees worldwide and an annual revenue of over 1 billion euros.
NKT Photonics was established in 2009, and its main products include ultra continuous medium white light lasers, single frequency fiber lasers, ultrafast fiber lasers, etc.

Hamamatsu Photonics focuses on the laser diode business based on composite semiconductor manufacturing technology, and forms a close complementarity with NKT Photonics in the field of fiber lasers. The two sides are expected to further expand in the application field. With the expansion of future laser application business, NKT Photonics' product lineup is expected to occupy an important position.

However, NKT Photonics has also recently encountered a headwind: on April 17th local time, Denmark's NKT Photonics A/S company was sued in a local federal court. Omni Continuum LLC alleges that NKT Photonics' "multi-stage supercontinuum" laser infringes on two technology patents related to its industrial, medical, defense, and quantum applications, and claims at least $18 million.
