Germany-based laser manufacturer TOPTICA Photonics AG has entered into a definitive purchase agreement to acquire a majority stake in French fiber laser technology company Azurlight Systems SAS on December 22, 2022. Azurlight will continue and further develop its fiber laser business under the new name TOPTICA Photonics SAS and form the TOPTICA French Centre. Recently, the transaction has been approved by relevant departments, and further information will be announced gradually.

The unique combination of the world's leading tunable diode lasers, higher quality frequency conversion technologies and lower noise high power amplifiers will serve customers in the rapidly growing quantum technology, bio-photonics and industrial metering markets and help to help Europe build a stronger position in these upcoming markets.

The combination of diode and fiber lasers with frequency conversion provides solutions from low power to high power and from ultraviolet to infrared wavelengths. They are valuable tools used in a variety of industries, including quantum technology, medical research, industrial instrumentation, and basic science research. Quantum technology applications and products in particular will benefit from complete solutions in the industrial field.

The acquisition will enable the combined entity (TOPTICA Photonics SAS) to further develop strategically. Customers will benefit from an experienced global team of experts covering laser technology application knowledge and comprehensive technical support. This extended network is an important step in TOPTICA's goal of providing the world's leading edge professional-grade lasers to scientific and industrial customers.

Commenting on the acquisition, Dr. Nicholas Traynor, Founder and President of Azurlight Systems, said, "We are honored to join TOPTICA and excited about the opportunities presented by the next stage of our growth. Combining the proven technology of narrow-band and tunable diode lasers with our lower noise fiber amplifiers will be a win-win for both companies in enriching their product lines. Combined with TOPTICA's existing global sales and service network, we will be able to meet our customers' needs in the quantum technology market and beyond. We are eagerly looking forward to what lies ahead."

Dr. Wilhelm Kaenders, Founder and Executive Board Member of TOPTICA Photonics AG, comments: "We are very pleased to welcome Azurlight Systems to the TOPTICA brand, adding best-in-class fiber lasers and amplifiers to our portfolio. We will further strengthen fiber laser development in France, as well as strong generic product development including our subsidiaries in the United States and Germany. This will increase our offerings for industrial and scientific research, particularly in the growing markets of quantum computing, biophotonics and industrial metrology."

Azurlight Systems is a French manufacturer of continuous-wave fiber lasers and amplifiers based in Pessac, near Bordeaux, France. Their infrared (IR) and visible light (VIS) lasers are tailored for high performance, with high power, low noise, single frequency, single mode, superior power and pointing stability. Its compact structure ensures robustness and reliability at wavelengths (488 nm, 515 nm, 532 nm, 976 nm, 1015 nm, 1030 nm, 1064 nm and other customized wavelengths). Cw fiber lasers can be widely used in quantum technology, high power argon laser replacement, laser Doppler velocity measurement, high brightness laser pumping, laser holography, metrology and interferometry.
