Hacksmith Industries is back again, this time with a functional 1.5kW Iron Man Laser glove capable of cutting steel. This is not your average laser you can buy online, as it retailed for more than $100,000 not long ago, but has since dropped to just $6,000. Its lens comes from a laser welding machine and is reduced in size by removing unwanted parts for fitting inside a glove.

Because the laser's power supply was too large to fit inside the glove, the team connected a wire from the larger unit to it, similar to one of their earlier lightsaber designs. If you open the glove, the only parts you will see are a collimating lens and a focusing lens. The pieces need to be precisely aligned in order to focus the light for maximum intensity. The glove consists of 66 individual stainless steel parts that cover Kevlar and mail gloves, while air is pumped into the airbags to keep them snug.

The controls run through the Arduino Nano, which allows the use of a switch that moves the solenoid to turn the gas supply and laser power off and on. This allows the wearer to melt things from a distance at the touch of a button. The control system is powered by a small 12V battery, which is also housed in the glove, "Hacksmith Industries said.
