Coherent, a leader in advanced laser materials processing solutions, today introduced PAVOS kW Ultra, a robust-designed optical isolator capable of withstanding power of up to 1kW, specifically targeted for applications involving high-energy ultra-short pulse (USP) lasers.
The growing popularity of carbon fiber reinforced polymers (CFRP) in automotive and aerospace applications is one of many megatends driving the demand for USP laser processing tools, as they have the best characteristics for cutting and labeling such polymer materials. Coherent's PAVOS kW Ultra enables femtosecond pulsed lasers to maintain superior beam quality at very high pulse energies.
"We are bringing to market a unique solution that has been proven in field femtosecond laser trials in customer LABS," said Dr. Chris Koeppen, Chief Innovation Officer. "This product integrates our groundbreaking innovations in magneto-optical crystals, thin-film coatings and polarizing optics to form a vertically integrated product with highly differentiated performance."
Compared to existing products, the new PAVOS kW Ultra offers excellent beam quality and high isolation, while achieving approximately one-tenth of the absorption and thermal lens focal length shift. The isolator has a 12 mm aperture, enabling a large laser beam size that significantly increases the laser damage threshold.
PAVOS kW Ultra is ideal for specialized Lipper lasers operating at one micron wavelengths, such as fiber lasers and diode-pumped solid-state lasers. These USP lasers are increasingly being used for large area applications in aerospace and mold texture processing, as well as to meet the high throughput requirements of the automotive industry. The PAVOS kW Ultra will officially be available in fall 2023.
Coherent will be at Laser World of Photonics booth B3.321, Munich, Germany, from June 27 to 30; Laser Korea, July 5-7, Seoul, Booth 4101; And China Photonics Laser World, Shanghai, Booth W2 2140, July 11-13. At these meetings, Coherent will showcase the latest additions to its broad portfolio of differentiated solutions for materials processing.
