Renishaw will present its latest radio transmission detection system at the EMO fair in Hannover, Germany (18-23 September 2023, Hall 6, Stand B32).
The RMP24-micro is the smallest wireless machine tool probe on the market, with a diameter of just 24 mm and a length of just 31.4 mm. In addition to its miniature size, the RMP24-micro offers market-leading metering performance for wireless probes of this size. With measurement repeatability of 0.35 micron 2σ and low trigger force, it is ideal for compact machines that manufacture high-value, high-precision components, such as those in the medical, watchmaking and micromechanical industries.
The RMP24-micro utilizes Renishaw's updated radio transport protocol to communicate with the machine controller via the RMI-QE radio interface. It has an operating range of up to 5 meters and uses a 2.4GHz frequency-hopping spread spectrum (FHSS) protocol that is industry-proven and compliant with global radio regulations. FHSS technology enables both the probe and the interface to jump from one channel to another while maintaining communication, allowing the probe system to operate alongside other wireless power sources such as Wi-Fi, Bluetooth ®, and microwaves. This is not the case for other protocols that may require manual intervention to operate in the same environment.
"At EMO Milano 2021, we introduced the RMI-QE interface and the QE series of probes. At the time, we talked about how this new interface and communication protocol laid the foundation for the next generation of Renishaw sensors. The RMP24-micro is the first of these products, and many more exciting smart factory devices are on the horizon, "says Steve Petersen, Marketing Manager, Renishaw Machine Tool Products. "The RMP24-micro provides fast, accurate and reliable part setup and verification, packaged in a size that fits in the palm of your hand. We are delighted that manufacturers of small, high-precision components such as watch movements and plastic surgery can now benefit from our process control solutions."
Renishaw's precision measurement and process control technologies, such as the RMP24-micro, enable efficient and sustainable manufacturing. They can predict, identify, and correct process errors before they occur. This helps eliminate waste, which in turn reduces the energy, time, and materials wasted in producing these scrap parts.
Factory automation improves operational efficiency by increasing machine uptime and overall production without the need to add additional machines. Renishaw's probe solutions for CNC process automation enable manufacturers to increase machine utilization and operate 24/7. With process automation technology, physical automation can be implemented, resulting in increased productivity, which in turn reduces waste and energy consumption.
