Ouster new generation L3 chip
Angus Pacala, CEO of Ouster, said: "With the chip upgrade, the performance of the latest L3 chip will increase exponentially year by year with Moore's Law, so that customers will continue to benefit. The digital lidar has never stopped moving forward. This time, we have made a breakthrough to increase the new OSDome and doubled the detection range of all existing products, which can only be achieved in a digital architecture. REV7 series has completed the Leap, which can then cover a wider range of application scenarios, will also help us win new customers in all target markets. "
New generation L3 digital lidar chip
The REV7 series is equipped with Ouster's new generation L3 chip, which is a fully customized proprietary chip. For the first time, it introduces the back side illumination technology into the high-performance laser radar field, which has completely revolutionized the digital camera industry. With 125 million transistors integrated on L3 chip, the maximum computing power can reach 21.47 GMACS, bringing customers higher digital signal processing capacity and richer functions than ever before. Based on the enhanced on-chip processing system, the L3 chip can count about 10 trillion photons per second and output up to 5.2 million data points per second.
Latest OS REV7 series
Ouster REV7 series provides a wider range of detection at a longer distance and with higher accuracy to achieve better mapping, more accurate obstacle detection and safer indoor and outdoor automation. While maintaining the same compact and lightweight design as previous generations, REV7 series has higher maximum operating temperature, lower power consumption, and stronger shock and vibration resistance. About 95% of the components in REV7 series lidar meet the requirements of vehicle regulations, which is specially designed for large-scale vehicle deployment.
Advantages of OS REV7 series:
• Equipped with the latest L3 back illuminated digital lidar chip, photon detection sensitivity is increased by 10 times
• The detection range of the whole line of lidar products is doubled, and the maximum distance is 200m@10 %Reflectivity
• High resolution, covering short, medium and long range full application scenarios
• Maximum operating temperature increased by 10 ° C
• 1000BASE-T1 on-board Ethernet
With the improvement of the detection range of REV7 series, we will unlock all long-distance detection and high-speed application scenarios, especially automatic taxi, unmanned bus and automatic truck. OS2 REV7 can not only detect objects with 10% reflectivity at 200m, but also track vehicles and other targets in all directions at a distance of more than 400m. The photon detection probability of L3 chip has been increased by 10 times, so REV7 series can better detect objects around and far away from vehicles, and provide customers in the automotive and industrial fields with excellent detection results for difficult objects, such as tires, black vehicles, cables, fences, or forks on forklifts. These advantages also make REV7 series an excellent choice for surveying and mapping applications.
New OSDome Digital Lidar
The new OSDome hemispherical FOV lidar provides more extensive detection and coverage for industrial and intelligent infrastructure applications. The OSDome is compact and can be seamlessly integrated into the car body or ceiling. By eliminating blind areas, customers can use only a single lidar for large-scale monitoring, while simplifying the installation process and reducing system complexity.
Advantages of OSDome:
• Hemispherical 180 degree field of view angle to achieve full coverage from the ground to the ceiling
• 128 line vertical resolution
• 20m detection distance (10% reflectivity), wide coverage
• High precision double echo function, stronger object detection capability
• Privacy protection and accurate personnel tracking
For the industrial market, OSDome provides a vertical field of view with full coverage from the ground to the ceiling for autonomous mobile robots (AMRs) working in warehouses, which solves the problem of detecting objects directly below or above the head that they have been facing for a long time. For the smart infrastructure market, OSDome can be used as a supplement or direct replacement for CCTV and thermal cameras. Whether it is used to monitor the occupancy and residence time in retail stores, or to monitor whether anyone enters the restricted area of the security data center, OSDome can provide accurate 3D target classification and tracking in a wide range of areas.
REV7 series digital lidar equipped with L3 chip can be ordered from now on, and the first products are expected to be delivered in the fourth quarter of 2022.
