An increasing number of medical devices on the market today require permanent marking that is not subject to passivation and autoclave cycles - driving the need for efficient, reliable and cost-effective laser technology. The PowerLine PS 30 has a high average power and can perform black mark and micromachining tasks quickly, greatly increasing production throughput and cost of ownership while maintaining very high reliability.

"Traceability in medical device manufacturing is critical, which is why black marking must meet stringent readability and durability requirements," said Dr. Alexander Roth, vice president and managing director of Coherent Laser Systems Business Unit. "The use of laser technology for marking and micromachining allows mass production to be achieved while maintaining a high level of quality in the face of rapid volume growth. The PowerLine PS 30 picosecond laser marking machine provides customers with a fast return on investment. In addition, the subsystem is very simple to integrate and operate, which allows our customers to maximize labor efficiency."

For customers looking for a turnkey solution, the PowerLine PS 30 can be integrated into the ExactMark 230 USP system. The new Laser FrameWork software suite seamlessly integrates vision, tag validation, and other processes into an intuitive user interface. The software interface enables faster job setup, higher operational efficiency, and fewer production errors, all with minimal operator training.

The Laser FrameWork software suite covers several powerful utilities, including PartVision, an embedded machine vision feature. PartVision eliminates the cost of custom fixtures and reduces the time between production transitions, thanks to its ability to automatically position parts and adjust machine operation as needed to ensure that laser marks or other features are placed correctly and precisely. It can also capture post-processed images for content verification, quality control and traceability.
