Coherent High Laser (NYSE: COHR), a leader in industrial-grade material processing lasers, today announced the introduction of its new Monaco industrial-grade ultraviolet (UV) femtosecond laser. With an output power of 50 W, the new product is perfect for high-speed, efficient, high-volume cutting of wafer and stacked OLED displays.

For the new generation of mobile IT equipment, application scenarios such as wafer slotting and stacked display precision cutting are rapidly increasing and developing. This has accelerated the need for new performance laser cutting tools that can provide higher output power and complete high-precision, high-speed machining of materials. The newly launched Monaco 345-25-50 is the first UV laser with technical parameters of 50 W, 400 fs and all-weather industrial performance. It is easily integrated and perfectly supports high-precision cutting in large quantities.

"The Monaco 345-25-50 is the latest addition to our highly successful portfolio of industrial laser platforms," said Allan Ashmead, senior vice president of Coherent's North America Microelectronics and Instrumentation business group. It is also the smallest 50 W femtosecond laser on the market. The Monaco product family is proven in the field, with more than 800 Monaco systems currently deployed in factories around the world, operating 24/7 to mass produce medical devices and OLED displays for cutting-edge consumer products."

The Monaco 345-25-50 delivers pulses at an energy of up to 25 µJ at ultraviolet wavelengths, with a repetition rate of up to 2 MHz and a pulse width of less than 400 fs. It has all the standard features of the Monaco platform, including controlled on-demand pulse mode, variable pulse width modulation, variable repetition rate, and flexible Seeder Burst mode. Thanks to its compact size and true single-box design, the new product can be easily integrated into a wide range of machine tools. It further expands the Coherent high resolution range of Monaco infrared and green lasers, It comes on the heels of Coherent's introduction of a high-power, high-energy Monaco 1035-150-150 infrared laser at Photonics West 2023. The entire Monaco series can be directly ablated to cut a variety of wafer materials, and silicon carbide wafers are no exception.
