SM IMAX Iloilo Launches Breakthrough Laser Technology

SM Cinema set up SM IMAX Iloilo, showcasing the brand-new IMAX® With Laser, which is the next generation of laser projection and multi-channel sound system that provides crystal clear, realistic images and precise audio, bringing a unique viewing experience.

The new system debuted with the release of The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes.

Mayor Jerry Treñas acknowledged the importance of this groundbreaking film technology coming to the city of Iloilo.

“I would like to congratulate SM City Iloilo on launching its first IMAX cinema in the Western Visayas and groundbreaking IMAX cinemas in the Visayas and Mindanao islands," Treñas said.

The IMAX laser projection system adopts a brand-new optical engine and a set of proprietary IMAX technology, which provides clear images, higher resolution and deeper contrast. This is the most vivid and unique color in the history of the screen, with the precise sound of the next generation IMAX, providing greater dynamic range and accuracy, bringing the ultimate audio immersion. Not to mention its luxurious rocking chair seats, redesigned entryways, custom-made theater and stadium seats, each with a clear and advantageous position.

“I am as excited as you are about this iconic milestone, which will certainly bring a new level and more immersive viewing experience to Ilonggos, who loves theaters," Treñas said.

He emphasized that SM has always been a strong and special partner of the Iloilo City Government, especially in our many efforts to further improve the city's level.
