On October 25 local time, Lumibird, a leading developer of French optoelectronic and laser systems, released its financial report for the third quarter of 2022.
The financial report shows that the total revenue of Lumibird Group in the first three quarters was close to 125 million euros, up 11% year on year. The Optoelectronics Division contributed 58.2 million euros, and the remaining 66.7 million euros came from its medical division (mainly from Quantel Medical).
The latest data also shows that the Group's total sales revenue in the third quarter of 2022 is 40.9 million euros, up 10% year on year.

Income contribution of major businesses
At present, Lumibird Group's two major performance sources are optoelectronic business unit and medical business unit. The optoelectronics sector has three major businesses, namely, national defense/space business, industrial and scientific business and laser radar business. The Medical Business Department has proposed innovative medical and ophthalmic solutions from diagnosis to laser therapy.
From the perspective of the previous three quarters, the revenue of two business divisions of Lumibird Group achieved strong growth, and the consolidated revenue was close to 125 million euros. Among them, the Optoelectronics Business Division increased by 9% to 58.2 million euros (the industrial and scientific business increased by 4% to 26.3 million euros, the lidar business increased by 29% to 16.4 million euros, and the national defense/space business increased by 6% to 15.4 million euros), and the Medical Business Division increased by 11% to 21.3 million euros.
From the perspective of the third quarter alone, the two business divisions of Lumibird Group achieved a total revenue of 40.9 million euros. Among them, the revenue of Optoelectronics Division increased by 9% (reaching 19.6 million euros), and the sharp increase of industrial and scientific application business became an important driving force for the Division; The lidar business grew only slightly over the previous year, by 2% (to 5.4 million euros).
The national defense and aerospace business grew faster, with revenue increasing by 18% to 5.2 million euros in the third quarter compared with the same period last year, partly because Lumibird had previously merged Saab's laser rangefinder business.
It is reported that the rangefinder business (formerly Saab) contributed 900000 euros to Lumibird Photonics in Sweden in this quarter. At the end of May this year, Lumibird announced that it had completed the acquisition of Saab's laser ranging business and worked hard to expand its product line in the European market, which is expected to increase its annual revenue by about 10 million euros.
In terms of medical business, revenue in the third quarter increased by 11% year-on-year (to 21.3 million euros). Lumibird Group said that after the launch and successful approval of the new "C.STIM" laser treatment scheme for dry eye diseases earlier this year, the group's medical schemes and products have achieved sales acceleration in all business areas.
Performance Outlook
As expected, the annual sales of Lumibird Group will reach at least 175 million euros this year, higher than 162 million euros in 2021.
The senior management team of Lumibird said that the group's overall revenue in the last quarter of this year is expected to easily exceed 50 million euros. According to the order and delivery schedule, it is expected that the revenue in the fourth quarter will be significantly higher than that in the previous three quarters. Among them, the national defense and space business and the lidar business will be the strong support for the Group's performance in the photonics sector in the fourth quarter of 2022.
However, even if the performance is excellent and the growth is rapid, it is still a big challenge for Lumibird Group to achieve the revenue target of 250 million euros in 2023. In the face of such pressure, its acquisition of Innopics, a French optoelectronic packaging and component company, at the beginning of this month may become a major breakthrough to boost the group's performance.
Innopics was founded in 2010 and now has an annual income of slightly more than 300000 euros. Through the above transaction, Lumibird will be newly incorporated into a team of five people, who have complementary technical knowledge and 12 years of experience in designing and manufacturing optoelectronic systems and components. The company said last month: "The expansion of this field of technical expertise will enable Lumibird to accelerate its vertical strategy, while developing a series of new products to meet the needs of new markets, especially the low-cost laser segment for high-capacity markets."
