Under the framework of the DigiQuant project funded by the Ministry of Economic Affairs of Bavaria, ams OSRAM, TOPTICA, a manufacturer of high-end laser systems, and Fraunhofer IIS, Germany, will cooperate to develop diode based laser technology to promote the field of quantum optics and introduce quantum computers to the market.

In this joint project, ams OSRAM will be responsible for the development of laser diodes. The diode is suitable for the hybrid integration of photonic waveguide and digital control electronics of TOPTICA.

At the same time, Fraunhofer IIS and TOPTICA will be mainly responsible for studying the miniaturization of electronic devices in integrated circuits, so as to realize the digital operation of any material diode from different manufacturers.

It is reported that the miniaturized and digitized subsystems will be tested in two different applications, one is the quantum computer application program, and the other is the industrial application program that uses a hand-held scanner to read digital code.

The technology based on diode laser is one of the key driving factors behind the development of quantum optics. The above cooperation is expected to enable complex laboratory technology to be realized in portable and large equipment with high wall plug efficiency (WPE), to meet the needs of industrial application scenarios, and to help expand the scale of quantum computers, making them move from the basic research stage to the market maturity stage.
