I have downloaded the trial version of the program.

I followed the set-up instructions including the import file from XTool and the first video tutorial yesterday and got a cute little key ring.

Then later went back to do some more work and computer would not work with software.

Showed I was disconnected from the XTool D1 Pro.

Even though I hit device whenever I hit start a message popped up saying machine was not connected or busy.

I rebooted my MacBook Pro and still nothing.

I deleted and re-installed software and finally got it to work again. Well, sort of work. It recognizes the laser but will not cut anything.

I went back to the getting started tutorial on Lightburn site that I used yesterday and followed along again.

All settings as far as I can see were same as the tutorial.

Still when I try to make a cut to do the keychain again, the laser would move rather quickly and lightly score the wood.

Not sure why it worked once but now won’t even though I have exactly the same settings.

I really wanted to purchase and use the software because it is much more versatile than the free software which comes with my XTool D1 Pro but if I can’t get it to work then….

I have spent literally hours today trying to get this to work.

I have re-installed the program no less than five times.

Any suggestions?

Make sure you’re set to mm/min. Most diode settings are discussed in those terms. You can change this in LightBurn->Preferences.
If you did not use the .lbdev file provided by xTool to create the device I suggest you do that
If the laser is firing but not making a mark, that means you need to slow down or increase power. Continue doing those 2 things until a mark is achieved.
