In my ongoing quest to get my laser up and running, i have found the manufacturer has discontinued my machine and no replacement parts are to be had. It a Kentoktool JL5 5.5w. I have access to a Laser Tree 10w laser module with its own 12v power supply and an adapter board. The control box on the machine is 24v ( with a 24v power supply) . My questions are, will these two work together, considering they have their own separate power supply? If so, can anyone confirm which wires I’d need from the control box? So far I’m understanding PWM, power and ground, but the connector has 5 wires in it, would the other two be for the fan? Will i have to change anything in the Lightburn profile? I dont know alot about this subject so I’m asking a bunch of annoying questions before taking things apart. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

You need the ground and PWM from the controller. You need to tie the grounds of the 12 and 24 power supplies together. You’ll need the +12V from the laser power supply for the laser.

Alternatively (and you’d have to investigate), it’s quite possible that you could run the controller on the 12V supply if you don’t have something like an air assist pump that needs 24V. The steppers will run better at 24V, though, so best to just use two supplies as above.

Make sure the grounds (DC negatives) of the two power supplies are securely tied together so you don’t get inadvertent triggering of the laser.

      • I don’t think so. In your picture, I see six wires, they should be VCC, VCC, GND, GND, PWM, FlameSensor
Sometimes, either the VCC or GND lines get tied together or only one is used.
